Prized for its hardness, water-resistance and appearance, teak wood remains one of the finest quality woods in use today. Emerging from the tropics of Southeast Asia, the trees are among the few that produce high amounts of oil and wax, which serve to protect them from the hot, moist environments and pests. The wood naturally retains these extractives, providing built-in protection.

Weylandts has a deep connection with wood as a medium for furniture. It is not only a hardy material for creating high quality pieces, but it also represents the passing of time and the telling of unwritten stories.
Wood shares the histories of the earth through natural markings and patterns, making each piece of furniture a collaboration between Weylandts and nature — our tribute to the millennia of raw materials and craft that have come before us.
The choice of wood is influenced by Weylandts design and finding a harmonious balance between form and function. Understanding the benefits and characteristics of each material allows us to best showcase and amplify the parables that have long informed the earth – and will long continue to inform our homes.
About Our Wood
Teak
Mango
Unlike most other woods, the mango tree also produces the fruit for which it is known. At the end of its fruiting cycle, it’s cut down to be used as timber. This dual approach to productivity, and the fact that no natural or endangered forests are cut down, makes mango wood sustainable. The mango hardwood consists of a dense, uniquely fine grain. Thanks to its origins in tropical, humid climates, it's less susceptible to humidity and moisture – and less likely to warp over time.
Walnut
Revered for its typically deep chocolate colour (often highlighted by red or purple streaks), straight grains, fine texture and warm lustre, walnut is a popular choice for carpentry. Coveted by furniture craftsmen for decades, its cooperative structure and moderate density give it excellent working properties. Over the years, natural walnut wood develops a lustrous patina.
Munggur
Munggur is a natural timber sustainably sourced from Indonesian farms, supporting local communities and industries during the harvesting process. This wood is naturally high in moisture and oil content and offers many additional, beautiful characteristics. From its unique patterns to its various earthy colour tones, munggaur pieces add warmth and texture to any indoor or outdoor undercover space.
Oak
Oak wood is valued in furniture-making as well as in flooring and cabinetry because of its durability, workability, and natural beauty. The wood from an oak tree is light in colour and features a prominent grain pattern with an uneven texture. Due to its high tannin content, oak is resistant to insect and fungal infestations.
