As a pioneer of the underground New York pop art scene, Keith Haring is renowned for his boundary-breaking spontaneous drawings. Starting out as a graffiti artist on the New York subway in the early 1980s. Insisting that ‘the public has a right to art’ and addressing social issues like AIDS, LGBTQ rights, drug abuse and politics, his work was woke before the term ‘woke’ even existed.
