Originating from the 1920s, this hand-carved panel from Nagaland is a remarkable piece crafted from durable Sal wood, known for its strength and resilience. The panel is made from a single log of wood, a distinctive feature of Naga craftsmanship, where no nails or patchwork are used, ensuring its uniqueness and authenticity. Serving as a totem, this panel symbolised the status and achievements of its owner within the community. It was believed that the totem's owner had performed good deeds and contributed positively to the community.
